Catch-up Checklist

Today in class we did catch up what we already have on our blog and what we still lack. Personally, I have a lot of shared posts, but many of them are still in the works. I have a few artists left to do, I need to post my initial drawings and sketches, and do some research on feelings in art.

Presentation and feedback

From last week to today's classes we had time to prepare powerpoint presentations to show our classmates how working on our project looks like so far. I am generally very shy and very stressed when I have to do something or present in front of a large group of people. Even in the smaller it is a problem but slightly less. luckily today we were in groups of four and the stress wasn't that big.  My group members were Antria Theodourou, Joanna Siewiera i Salman Almutairi. Then each of us had to fill in a feedback form prepared by the teacher about our progress and the general outline of our project. The questions mainly concerned what progress has already been made, what artists we have already seen, what new skills and knowledge we have acquired, what is left for us to do and whether we will make it to the deadline.
It was a really nice presentation in a nice atmosphere. In fact, thanks to this, I realized how much work I still have to do with the project and what I still need to improve.
I also really enjoyed being able to see how others work on their projects. Even from classmates you can learn a lot and learn from their experience. I am also very curious how their final projects will look like, especially that each of them has a different subject area than me.
My group member gave me very constructive feedback about my project so far. I did some research about Tracey Emin and her work relate to my project but I need to research other artists to find how they using colours in their work to show emotions, feelings and straggles.

Here you can see the feedback I received:

Techniques and surfaces experimentation - gesso board,

Today in skills week, Sam showed us how we can change the texture of the surface we want to paint on or what we can add to the paint to change its texture. At the beginning, we used a thin wooden board and glued aluminum foil to it, trying to crease it as much as possible so that it protruded significantly from the surface of the board. In this way, we achieved the effect as shown in the figure below. Then the foil was painted with acrylic paints in an abstract way and we used a sponge dipped in paint. In some places, when the paint was slightly dry, I removed the excess to show the color of the aluminum foil.

Another method to obtain the structure was to add sand to the white paint. You can add it to any paint in as much as you like. The more sand, the more structured the surface. Then, using the same sponge, we applied paints in the colors of our choice. Again, an abstract composition was created that reminded me of a sunset at the ocean.

The following methods no longer concern the structure, but the technique and various tools thanks to which we can obtain interesting shapes and compositions on our work.
At work below we used toothbrushes on which we applied the selected paint and using our finger sprayed on a piece of paper. At the end, I poured paints diluted with water and moved the sheet in different directions so that the paint flowed in these directions on the sheet.

Another work was done with a drinking straw. I mixed the paints with water, added them to a piece of paper and, blowing into the straw, directed the stream of air at the paint. Funny blots and very interesting shapes were created.

In this work we had to play with colors. Use the sponge to create colorful patterns and shapes.

On the last work, the painting technique looked like this: at the beginning of the card I put dots of 4 different paints and rubbed them with a piece of cardboard.

My summary:

I believe that these classes were very helpful in my project. Abstraction and the right composition of shapes on the work is a very important and useful skill. Thanks to these classes, I also know how to get a different structure of paint or what types of tools to use to obtain interesting shapes.

Different materials colour experimentation- Marbling Ink

Hello!🖌🖌🖌🖌🖌🖌🖌

Today I will show you some of my experiments with marbling ink. This exercise is very interesting from an abstract point of view. It will be very useful for me to use this experience in my project. To be honest, I did it myself for the first time in my life and the wonders that can be created amazed me. In general, the whole procedure is simple, but you need to properly prepare the workplace because you can splash around pretty well. The most important thing is to find a suitable place to dry our wet colorful masterpieces.

Preparation and fun are very simple - pour some water into a rectangular bowl, add the white powder from the package and wait for several minutes. After this time, we take the paints and shake them very well.

We choose the colors we want and drop droplets from 15 cm onto the surface of the water. We can use different stirrers in the set and apply the paints as we want.

At the end, when the pattern on the water is satisfactory, we take the paper and put it on the colored surface of the water. Now we can admire what we came up with and continue experimenting with other patterns.

Below you can see pictures from the process and final outcomes of my work.
I really love this one. Beautiful patterns and twisted center remind me of a flower and the color red, of course, love and passion. I did not expect such an effect.

🎨What do I know about Fine Art🎨

🎨What should I be doing in my subject area?

Fine art is made for aesthetic and creative expression, visual art, the five major fine arts are painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and poetry. Fine art is also decorative or applied art that should also have some practical function, like pottery or most metalwork.

🎨What skills and knowledge do I need for my subject area?

I should have knowledge how to use imagination to create artistic works,  how to use mixed media like painting (acrylic, oil, watercolor), sculpting (Clay, wood, paper, cardboard, fabric, metal), drawing (colored pencils, charcoal),  sketching (pencils), how should i use colors and different techniques and surfaces

🎨What jobs can I get by studying in this subject?

I prefer to become a self-employed artist but after getting my degree I can work as

Fashion Illustrator

Graphic Designer

Curator

Printmaker

Interior Designer

Photographer

Marketing Manager

Fine Artist

Art Lecturer

🎨If I scored myself out of ten, with ten being the highest, how well do I think I know my own subject area?

Like 6 maybe 7

New Walk Museum & Art Gallery Leicester

Hi there!!! 🤗

Last week I have been visited art gallery about my major project theme witch is Expressionism. I found many great artists and their paintings, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Fritz Bleyl, Max Pechstein, Otto Mueller and Emil Nolde. They shared a studio, painted and took holidays together.
artists like Otto Dix and George Grosz satirised the vices of modern society. Others like Ludwig Meidner, Pechstein and Felixmüller joined short-lived political artists' groups like the Novembergruppe or the Arbeitsrat für Kunst (Workers' Council for Art), which sought to join artists with workers' solidarity movements

Käthe Kollwitz produced work which protested against injustice for the oppressed and Ernst Neuschul gave ordinary lives a new visibility and spirit.

I chose a few paintings that I liked the most with a slightly abstract note and showing the feelings and emotions flowing from the image.

The first work is the painting Messiah by Ernst Neuschul. I really like the composition of the picture. The abstract background contrasts very interestingly with the figure in the foreground. In my opinion, he also amazingly reflected and immortalized the facial expression of the character, his emotions and body position. A very expressive and interesting work.
I chose next one painting Breakdown by Ludwig von Hofmann because it is also full of feeling and expression. Unfortunately, I feel sad when I look at it, but thanks to this, I know that the artist perfectly visualized emotions using colors, compositions of human bodies and a very turbulent background.
Another Apocalyptic Vision by Ludwig Meidner makes me anxious and anxious. Very dark colors and a strange irregular line show an interesting apocalyptic picture. Both the work and its title perfectly harmonize with each other and affect the viewer.
The last one is Red Woman by Franz Marc showing an abstraction of a naked woman between some plants and shapes. She reminds me of some Indian or tribe woman because she has a tattoo on her shoulder blade and hip. The image evokes very nice feelings in me and the composition, despite the predominance of red, makes me happy, perhaps because of the contrast with the green. A very interesting abstraction that can lead me a bit to the idea for my main project.

Colour Psychology - how to show emotions in art

💙💚💛💜🧡🖤🤍🤎

Hello!

Today, doing some research on colors and their impact on emotions and feelings. I found a lot of interesting information that I will share with you in this post.

Emotions accompany each of us every day. They serve us to make various decisions under their influence as well as to experience life, to feel in a certain way. Every day is a kaleidoscope of various emotions that we sometimes don't even realize. Colorful emotions are also an inspiration and an element of creating the art of every artist, but also the emotions they evoke in the recipient through their works.

Emotions can be expressed through various techniques in art. However, I would like to focus on painting.

Very often, when we watch a work of art, we are able to notice a change in our mood. We can feel joy and euphoria. Sometimes sadness, nostalgia and longing, and even anxiety and fear. All this is the result of the appropriate selection of colors and techniques used by the artist. Knowing these techniques and knowing what colors affect the mood of a person, I can perfectly convey my own emotions and feelings to the recipient.

Experienced artists attach great importance to the selection of colors, but also shapes, lines and shadows to properly present their vision.

🌈Showing joy, happiness and contentment

Vivid, colorful even "candy" colors, in various shades of warm and cold, more proportional shapes,

🌈To show and arouse sadness, nostalgia, fear and anxiety

Dark, gloomy, dull and cold colors - black, grey, sometimes white. Distorted figures, strange shapes, distorted proportions

🌈Showing love, affection

Reds, pinks, purples in mild pastel tones, sometimes combined with black, showing the beauty of the figure, proportional

My summary:

Thanks to the psychology of color as an artist, I can learn how to show my emotions by using the right colors in my art and work, but also how to specifically affect the feelings and emotions of the recipient of my art. My major project will be based on the creation of works based on my own emotions and experiences, therefore thanks to my understanding of the psychology of color I will know how to get the right effect and I hope to influence the recipients and their emotions in the right way.
