Secondary research - Henry Moore

As my secondary research, we had to borrow books from the university library and research the artist in relation to our project.

Henry Moore was a British artist and sculptor who had a profound impact on the development of modern art in the 20th century. He is best known for his abstract bronze sculptures which explore the relationship between the human form and the natural world. Moore's work has influenced countless artists, including those working in the field of abstract sculpture.

I am currently working on an abstract sculpture project, there are several ways from which I could draw inspiration from Moore's work. One aspect of Moore's sculpture that might be relevant to my project is his use of organic, curvilinear shapes. Many of his sculptures have a sinuous, flowing quality that suggests movement and growth. I might explore incorporating similar forms into my own abstract sculpture, perhaps using natural materials like wood to emphasize the connection to nature.

Another element of Moore's sculpture that could be relevant to my project is his interest in exploring negative space. Many of his pieces feature large openings or voids that create interesting shadows and spatial relationships. I might experiment with creating similar negative spaces in my own work, using the interplay between solid and void to create visual interest.

Lastly, I could consider Moore's approach to abstraction itself. Although his sculptures often have abstract forms, they typically retain a strong connection to the natural world. As I work on my own abstract sculpture, I might consider how to balance the tension between abstraction and representation, creating a piece that is both visually compelling and rooted in my own personal experiences and observations of the world around me.
